Kansas and Concerts

Posted 03-15-2008 at 12:21 AM by mankvill
I have always loved Kansas. Despite what TV shows it as, it's a great place to live. Plenty of stuff to do, nice towns, great schools, and whatever you'd like to do on a Friday night, chances are you can do it in Kansas. Although lately, it seems that good concerts are coming less and less.

1. Hate Eternal w/ Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust. Not coming to Kansas even though Hate Eternal was here in Feb. with Black Dahlia Murder and I drove 2 hours to see Skeletonwitch on a Monday night in Feb.

2. Arsis. After screwing us over on Summer Slaughter last year (albeit they had a good reason), the band decides to go to Salina on a Wednesday night. What? There are venues on Eastern Kansas that hold more than the entire population of Salina.

3. Summer Slaughter 2k8. This just pisses me off. Colorado gets a date, St. Louis gets a date, even fucking Nebraska gets a date, but nothing for Kansas. We sold out the fucking venue in 2007, but I guess this is what we get having Hot Topic sponsor the tour.

4. Iron Maiden. This just blows my mind. They have nothing scheduled from Mar. 17 - May 21, at which point they will be in Texas. I'm still hoping they do not fuck over almost the entire Midwest on this tour and say "haha, gotcha" and announce more dates. They say they are playing places that Maiden hasn't in recent tours. The last time Iron Maiden came to Kansas City was in 2000. Then it was 6800-seat Sandstone Amphitheatre in Bonner Springs, KS. Now, we have the 24,000 seat Sprint Center arena. It just opened. This is perfect for Iron Maiden. I guarantee a sell-out if they tour there.

I want to move to Chicago or New York for concerts.

But I would miss Kansas too much.

Yeah, that's a real bummer dude. At least you're seeing EITS, they play some random ass shows. For Maiden though, I'd recommend going somewhere ridiculously far.

So long as "whatever" includes chasing tornadoes or farming, and doesn't include seeing Iron Maiden

@ Div: hehehe!

No, there are a lot of nightclubs, restaurants, and other stuff in Kansas City!

But not enough tornadoes.

Living in St. Paul, I know exactly what you're going through. Well, it was a bit better back when you posted this, but we do get skipped quite a bit more often now it seems while The Rave in Milwaukee always gets shows. And Maiden hasn't played here since 2000 and we have 2 huge arenas. Chicago or NY sure would be great!
