I've kind of noticed something. On most metal sites where people list their favorite bands, I find that many, many people prefer classic/heavy metal and power metal to anything else. I've seen so many people who say they love Nightwish. I just can't get into them.

also, i was bored with the same old led zep and floyd songs in highschool so i went online and typed something like "top 10 metal songs" and found a list with megadeth, metallica, manowar, sabbath, etc and just downloaded them off one of the old p2p programs to test em out. i still do the same thing really except now i just torrent entire albums at a time and i check out new bands i see mentioned here.

So the grass always looks greener on the other side. Years from now, people will still be into bands from our decade, remeniscing of when they saw their favorite band before they got big, and kids will wish that they could live in the "iPod era"

This is the truest shit ever. Its probably the reason for what I call the "Baby boomer nostalgia" popularity boost of the Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Who.

I got into them, then got bored a few months later. I blame it squarely on the "Girl singer" novelty factor. They would rule so much harder if they cut down on the symphony shit and went the Deep Purple/Accept route.

I couldn't stand them until the new album. Love the new one and they were pretty good live too (destroyed on the night by Pain, however).

Still can't stand any of the old stuff.

I was exposed to Metallica (only Black Album and later, though), Black Sabbath, and Zeppelin by my dad, and when I was in 8th grade I started listening to stuff like Megadeth and old Metallica. About a year later I heard Maiden for the first time, then later on I heard stuff like Iced Earth, Slayer, and Queensryche, and once I got to college I started branching out to stuff with more "extreme" vocals, like Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, and Opeth. After that, it was just a matter of scouring the internet and talking to people and expanding my horizons, I guess.
