There were two support bands: Black Trip and Arsis. I know practically nothing about either of them, so I don't know what they played.

There was also a guitar solo in there somewhere between Shitload of Money and Last Amazing Grays.

The crowd was pretty small, maybe 500 people or so, and the venue was freezing (odd for a place nicknamed the HOTladium).

Show started at 8. Black Trip came out first, followed by Arsis. I didn't catch set times for them, but Sonata Arctica came on around 10-ish, maybe a little before. They played for about an hour and half. The sound was little low for my taste, especially the vocals (all three bands had that problem). But overall though they put on a pretty good show, despite a spectacularly mediocre setlist.

Thought about going, but decided against it at the last minute. Would've been a fucking paradise seeing a show in the Palladium that wasn't 497 degrees though.

This is pretty much my sentiment for the VA show. Seems like you had a similar experience :3

That's interesting...to me the Palladium is a typically cold place, I usually keep my jacket on. I've been to some memorably cold shows there but I can't remember a time when I was boiling up. To me places like Middle East Downstairs are more likely to get overheated, for obvious reasons.

At any rate, I don't regret skipping this one even though I still love Sonata. I have seen them 4 times before and despite loving their music I never thought they were that amazing live. I've also seen Arsis three times in the past but I haven't been into their albums lately.

Maybe it's a seasonal thing. I haven't gone to many shows there in the winter. I remember seeing Nightwish there in 2008. It was the end of August and the heat was epic. The security guards at the front were pouring water into the mouths of the crowd up front like feeding cattle.

Summer Slaughter at the Palladium this year was probably the hottest show i've ever been to, it was crazy how hot and muggy it was in there.
