Blue Oyster Cult -- Falls Church, VA -- December 9th, 2012
Full Review
Saw BOC at the State Theater in VA last night. Was a great show, a lot of old timers came out, but there were younger people there too. REGARDLESS, there was a sizable crowd. For old rock n rollers, they sounded great. Buck still remains a highly underrated guitar player (and singer and writer!), his solos sounded almost angelic, IMO. The other guy they had on guitar/keys was pretty good, his style was faster and more Eddie Van Halenish. I feel old (I'm not very old tho) when I realize that Eric is like 68 and Buck is 65 and notice different things during the show. Buck had most of the singing duties, Buck played/wore his guitar like Paul Stanley, and took frequent sitting breaks. The drum and bass and extended guitar solos seemed built in to give rest breaks... All understandable and it was amazing that they are that old and still get up, tour, and put on a great show. Eric may be missing a few beats, but Buck looked and sounded great for 60+! They sounded great, totally worth going out to see them. Solid rockin tunes, some deep cuts, and a receptive crowd! Setlist Blue Oyster Cult (9:20 - 11:04)

Hot damn, now that's a BOC setlist right there! No lameass Cities on Flame audience singalong too. Throw in Astronomy and The Red and Black and it would be perfect.
The other guitarist, Richie Castellano does a great job filling in for Allen Lanier. His extended solo that he does during Last Days of May is outstanding. Their drummer that have now is seriously mediocre though. He doesn't do justice to Albert Bouchard one bit.

100% agree. His more flamboyant playing style contrasts nicely with Buck's more sustained and controlled one!

Cool deal. I used to live about 2 miles from the State Theater, though never had a reason to go there.
I saw BOC once - DC101 chili cook off in DC of all things. Agree that Astronomy is needed in the setlist.
