So I saw the Hobbit: the Battle of the Five Armies today. I really was NOT impressed in any way. I think the nostalgia bug hit me with the first Hobbit movie, then I just got left blue-balled with the second. But I did notice the cracks after the second movie. I can remember the Lord of the Rings movies stuck with me for a week or two, the first Hobbit stuck with me for a few days and the second stuck with me for at least a few hours. I left the theater from this one and it was already gone.

We all know how spread thin the story was over the course of three movies but it really showed with the last two chapters. This movie was a half hour or so set-up and then a battle. So if you like battles you'd love this. But I had nothing invested in this battle. I could give a rats ass about everyone involved. And the CGI...was terrible. Yes, terrible. The scene with Gandalf, Sauroman, Elrod and lady elf...it happened early and I thought it was so bad that I was done with the movie then. It just screamed TACKED ON PADDING. I hated the whole inclusion of that storyline but that scene was just terrible. And no Frodo. Which may be better because I think Frodo being in at the end may have left me with a better taste in my mouth than the movie deserved.

The only part that did tug at me a little was King Dwarf's (I know his name but I can't bother to look up it's spelling) final scene with Bilbo. It was sad. I the other dwarves that bought it...who cares. And I was hoping for an arrow to come flying through Evangiline Lillys head. No luck. The whole thing just did not need to be. Two movies would have been fine. I'm very disappointed. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
