I did another run of Final Fantasy XIII over the course of the last few months. I didn't turn out as I'd hoped.

I've updated the original article with my thoughts.

I never got far in this game. I got to some part on Disc 2 where you go up flights of stairs or elevators or something for a long time, fight, go up, fight, go up, fight, go up, fight twice , go up, fight, go up, boss.

I got stuck at the boss, and just didn't feel like playing through it again after my Xbox got stolen and I lost all my files. When I am bored on a Saturday or Sunday morning I think to myself "Hmm, maybe I'll play FF13 and put time into it", but then I end up wanting to replay one of the old GTA's or just free roam in GTA5 or try to get unstuck in Silent Hill 2 or get further in Assassins Creed 2, a game which I have no idea who is who and what is going on but I cannot seem to put it down.

Anyway, I really did enjoy the game for its simplicity and pick and play value to it, but not as a Final Fantasy game. FF7 set my expectations too high for the series.
