Tenacious D -- New York, NY -- June 29th, 2012
The opening band for this show was The Sights, I don't really have much to say about them.
The D came out around 9:15 and played until 11. The set included a lot of songs from the new album which I haven't heard yet but the tunes they played sounded pretty good. While the new songs were good I wanted to hear the old stuff, particularly some stuff from the POD since I must have seen that movie about 100 times. I was pretty impressed with how they handled the songs with guest vocalist. When they played Kickapoo, KG did Meatloaf's verse and JB did Dio's. For Beezleboss, the electric guitarist sung Dave Grohl's parts. Though I knew the words to a lot of these songs it was hard to sing along cause I couldn't stop laughing. A Tenacious D show is about 60% concert and 40% comedy. Some of the comedy bits between songs went on for quite a while and I didn't mind it at all. Throughout the whole show they had a huge blow up of the dick shaped phoenix from the cover of the new album. The highlight of the show was at the end of the set where the phoenix leaned forward and blew a load of cumfetti into the crowd. Speaking of cum they had possibly the best piece of merch I've ever seen from a band. For $10 they were selling the official Tenacious D cum rag which had a picture of unicorns frolicking though a field of rainbows. I totally should of bought one looking back. A part of me kinda wishes I could've gone, but oh well. I'm sure it must've been cool to see Jack Black up close and whatnot.

Man I would LOVE to see the D! That said, they really don't play Master Exploder or Rock Your Socks? As much as I would like to see Dude (I Totally Miss You) and Kyle Quit the Band, ME and RYS are much more important songs to play imo. Great set otherwise though.

With the exception of Master Exploder, they play pretty much all of my favourite D songs, so it looks like this is going to be awesome! Thanks for the set/review!

Yeah the lack of ME was a little disappointing but I wanted to hear The History of Tenacious D more than anything.
